Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's and women's tennis teams hosted the first day of the MSU Denver Invitational.
In the Men's Flight A,
Josh Graetz (Albury, Australia/The Scots School) won two matches by scores of 6-3, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-3.Â
Joey Tscherne (Sylmar, Calif./John F. Kennedy H.S.) won his first match 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 and fell in the second match of the day 7-6 (3), 6-4.Â
Alejandro Martinez-Morilla (Madrid, Spain/I.E. Valdecas) won both of his matches as well as
Tom Witteveen (San Diego/Steele Canyon High School) both won matches in the Men's Flight B.Â
Calum Hayes (Leeds, England/Guiseley H.S.) went 1-1 on the day in Men's Flight B as well.Â
Keenan Kaltenbacher (Colorado Springs, Colo./The Classical Academy) and
Sam Stember (Melbourne, Fla./Satellite H.S.) each won both of their matches in the Men's Flight C bracket. In the Men's D Flight,
Nic Atkinson (El Dorado Hills, Calif./Oak Ridge H.S.) fell in his only match of the day and
Adam Rivera (Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge H.S.) won his. Doubles action saw Morilla and Hayes win two matches in the Men's A Flight.Â
Courtney Wright (Houston, Texas/Memorial H.S.) won her first two matches in the Women's Flight A by scores of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-3. Â
Emily Kerr (Winchester, England/Peter Symonds College) also took her first match 6-0, 6-4, but fell in her second match by a score of 6-3, 6-2. Â
Linying Xiao (Guilin, China/St. Mary's Academy (Colo.)) and
Tabitha Porter (Norwich, England/Northcote College) also won their first two matches to close out the A flight. Â In the Women's Flight B, Ana Vujosevic won her first match by a score of 6-2, 6-2, but eventually fell in her second match. Â
Ainsley Winterrowd (Lacey, Washington/North Thurston High School) and
Mackenzie Hotan (Beaverton, Oregon/Southridge High School) both won their first two matches in the Women's Flight B as well. Â
Alex Horton (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.) split her matches dropping the first one but fighting back to win her second match in the Women's Flight C bracket.  Porter and Xiao won their first match in Women's Doubles Flight A, and Wright and Kerr won their first two matches. In Women's Doubles Flight B, Winterrowd and Horton won their first match but dropped the second, and Vujosevic and Hotan won their first two matches.
Competition will resume at all three sites on Sunday, September 18.
