Colorado Springs, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's tennis team fell 6-1 at Air Force Academy on Friday, February 24.
The Roadrunners took two of the three doubles matches with junior
Josh Graetz (Albury, Australia/The Scots School) and sophomore
Joey Tscherne (Sylmar, Calif./John F. Kennedy H.S.) winning their match 7-6 (4). Junior
Calum Hayes (Leeds, England/Guiseley H.S.) and freshman
Alejandro Martinez-Morilla (Madrid, Spain/I.E. Valdecas) gained the win in their doubles match 6-3. Senior
Sam Stember (Melbourne, Fla./Satellite H.S.) and and sophomore
Keenan Kaltenbacher (Colorado Springs, Colo./The Classical Academy) fell in their doubles match 6-1.
MSU Denver fell in all six of its singles matches. Graetz fell in a close match to Air Force's Fumagalli 7-5, 7-5. Tscherne fell in three sets to Olson 7-6, 4-6, 6-2. Martinez-Morilla was defeated by Perez 6-4, 7-5. Stember fell in two sets to Collins 6-2, 6-4. Kaltenbacher was defeated by Galvin 6-4, 6-1. Hayes fell in his singles match 6-4, 6-1.
"We are looking to keep building from these matches as a team," said head coach
Daniel Hangstefer. "It was a tough loss, however we competed extremely hard. We continue to make tremendous strides in our doubles play and are looking to keep up the momentum going into conference play next weekend."
The Roadrunners will begin Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play on Friday, March 3 against Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction, Colo.
