Baseball: MSU Denver Split Day Two of Opening Weekend

Roadrunners lose first 6-2, and win the second 12-7

Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver's baseball team spit its games against Nebraska Kearney on the second day of opening weekend. The Roadrunners fell in the first game 6-2 and earned the win in game two 12-7.
 
Freshman Cade Crader (Aurora, Colo./Grandview High School) made his first career start for the Roadrunners against Nebraska Kearney in game one of the double header. Crader earned his first career strikeout on his second batter of the inning. The Lopers were able to get on the board scoring one run in the first inning with two hits.
 
Nebraska Kearney would keep the Roadrunners scoreless heading into the third inning. The Lopers hit a three run homer in the top of the third to take a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third.
 
The Roadrunners made it on the board in the third with junior Cale O'Donell hitting a single RBI.
 
There would be no more scoring until the fifth inning with Pare Katechis scoring a homerun for the Lopers. MSU Denver Freshman Jerome Bohannon II (Aurora, Colo. /Cherokee Trail High School) would come in as pitcher in the sixth making his first career start entering the inning with zero outs and one on base. Nebraska Kearney would score one more in the inning off a sac fly.
 
The Roadrunners would score the last run of the game in the sixth with junior Hunter Donaldson (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) hitting a double RBI.
 
The rest of the game ended scoreless with the Lopers taking the first game 6-2.
 
In the second game junior Beecher Strube (Casper, WY/Kelly Walsh High School ) started out on the mound for his first Roadrunner start.
 
The Lopers got things rolling scoring the the first run in the second inning. They would go on to score five more in the second after two singles led to two RBI's and Dallas Schramm hit a three run homer put the Lopers up 6-0 going into the bottom of the second.
 
MSU Denver made it on the board in the third inning scoring five runs off three hits. After a one run inning for the Lopers the momentum would continue into the fourth inning scoring six runs. The bases loaded in the sixth led to several walks scoring Senior Nick McCasky (Golden, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) hit his second RBI in the sixth sending senior Jake Ekman (Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge H.S.) home.   A Loper balk led to another Roadrunner run and a sac fly from sophomore Adam Tulley (Allenspark, Colo./Estes Park High School) led McCasky to score and seal the six run inning for the Roadrunners.
 
Sophomore Hunter Hogoboom (Arvada, Colo./Pomona H.S.) entered the game at pitcher in the top of the fifth inning for the Roadrunners keeping the Lopers scoreless in the fifth and sixth inning.
 
One last run in the sixth for the Roadrunners would be enough for the win. Junior Hunter Donaldson (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) hit a double to get on base and McCasky sent him home to put the Roadrunners up 7-12.
 
MSU Denver will play on the road at Emporia State next Friday, February 10 to continue its 2017 play.
