Men's Tennis By Roadrunners Athletics

Tennis: Roadrunners Sweep Thunderwolves

Both teams win 9-0

Pueblo, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's and women's tennis team competed against CSU-Pueblo Saturday, March 11 with both teams earning the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win 9-0.  
 
In the men's doubles, junior Josh Gratez and sophomore Joey Tscherne (Sylmar, Calif./John F. Kennedy H.S.) took number one doubles 8-5. Sophomore Keenan Kaltenbacher (Colorado Springs, Colo./The Classical Academy) and senior Sam Stember (Melbourne, Fla./Satellite H.S.) won in their doubles match 8-5. Junior Calum Hayes (Leeds, England/Guiseley H.S.) and Freshman Alejandro Martinez-Morilla (Madrid, Spain/I.E. Valdecas) also won their match 8-5.
 
In the clean sweep of singles, Graetz won his No.1 singles in two sets 6-2, 6-4. Tscherne took his match 6-3, 6-3. Martinez-Morilla took his No. 3 singles match 6-2, 6-3.  Stember won in 6-4, 6-3 against his opponent. Kaltenbacher won in two sets 6-1, 6-1 and Hayes wrapped up the sweep winning 6-4, 6-3.
                                                
On the women's side, juniors Courtney Wright (Houston, Texas/Memorial H.S.) and Emily Kerr (Winchester, England/Peter Symonds College) stole the No. 1 doubles match 8-2. Freshmen Tabitha Porter (Norwich, England/Northcote College) and Valerie Valencia (Playas de Tijuana, Mexico/Bonita VIsta High School) defeated their opponents 8-1. Freshman Ainsley Winterrowd (Lacey, Washington/North Thurston High School) and senior Ana-Jelena Vujosevic (Milano, Italy/Skednja Ekonomska Skola) completed the sweep winning their doubles match 8-4.
 
The women won all eight of their singles matches as well with Porter taking the No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-4. Valencia won her match in two sets 6-0, 6-2. Kerr won No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-3. Winterrowd defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Mackenzie Hotan (Beaverton, Oregon/Southridge High School) won her singles match 6-2 in both sets. Vujosevic rounded out the winning defeating her opponenet 6-3, 6-2.
 
The MSU Denver women's tennis team will compete tomorrow, Sunday, March 12 against Hastings College at the Regency Athletic Complex. The matches are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
 
The MSU Denver men's team will compete next against Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas on Tuesday, March 21.
