Pueblo, Colo. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver baseball team split a doubleheader with CSU-Pueblo on Saturday winning the first game 5-3 and falling in the second game 11-1.

Cale O'Donnell (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) opened up the scoring in the first game when he singled to left field and drove in senior
Jake Thurston (Centennial, Colo./Grandview H.S.). MSU Denver led 1-0 after the top of the first inning.
The Roadrunners would give up a run in the bottom of the first inning and two more in the bottom of the second. MSU Denver trailed 3-1 until the top of the fifth inning. Junior
Donny Ortiz, Jr. (Littleton, CO/Columbine High School) drove in sophomore
Adam Tulley (Allenspark, Colo./Estes Park High School) to bring the Roadrunners within one run. Senior
Jake Ekman (Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge H.S.) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Ortiz, Jr. to tie the game. Thurston then scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. The Roadrunners led 4-3 after the top of the fifth inning.
MSU Denver senior
Marcus Bean (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when he homered to left field. Junior
Jared Roley (Littleton, Colo./Heritage H.S.) closed out the game and picked up the save. Junior
Javi Vega (Chula Vista, Calif./Castle Park H.S.) earned the win to move to 1-1 on the season.
In the second game of the doubleheader, CSU-Pueblo was able to jump out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Thunderwolves added five runs in the bottom of the third inning and five more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. MSU Denver was able to get on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning when O'Donnell singled to right-center field and brought in junior
Sean Kennedy (Aurora, Colo./Grandview High School).
Following the doubleheader, the Roadrunners hold a record of 5-8 overall and 1-2 in the RMAC.
MSU Denver will complete the four-game series with CSU-Pueblo on Sunday, March 5 at 12 noon in Pueblo, Colo.
