Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver baseball team fell in its double header against Regis University on Monday, April 3. The Rangers took the first game in extra innings 6-5 and game two of the double header 11-3. The Roadrunners are now 14-16 overall and 10-10 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Rangers improved to 21-10 overall and 14-6 in the conference.

In game one, senior
Derek Stimpson (Colorado Springs/Doherty H.S.) started at pitcher for the Roadrunners holding the Rangers to just one hit through five innings.Â

The Roadrunners put up two runs in the top of the second inning. Junior
Sean Kennedy (Aurora, Colo./Grandview High School) then put up the first run for MSU Denver, leading off the inning with a home run to right field. Junior,
Hunter Donaldson (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) then reached base on a Rangers error, followed by Senior
Marcus Bean (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) hitting a single to center field. Freshman
Dylan Nelson (Lakewood, Colo./D'Evelyn Jr/Sr High School) was able to ground out to score Donaldson on the play, putting the Roadrunners up 2-0.

The game remained scoreless through to the sixth inning when the Roadrunners made it back up on the scoreboard, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Bean hit the Roadrunners second home run in the game to score two runs and extend the lead to 4-0.

The Rangers made a comeback in the bottom of the sixth putting three runs up off two hits in the inning, cutting the Roadrunners lead to 4-3. But Regis was able to tie the game up at four, scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Both teams held each other scoreless through the eighth and ninth, sending the game into extra innings.Â

MSU Denver entered the tenth inning strong with Senior
Jake Ekman (Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge H.S.) leading off the inning with a double. Junior
Trent Maloney (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.) followed reaching base on a single to center field. Kennedy would go on to earn an RBI, sending Ekman home for the Roadrunners to take a 5-4 lead going into the bottom of the 10
th.

The Rangers fought back in the bottom of the 10
th to score two runs, taking the 6-5 win over the Roadrunners. MSU Denver out hit Regis in game one 14-8.

In game two of the double header, freshman
Jerome Bohannon II (Aurora, Colo./Cherokee Trail High School) started on the mound for the Roadrunners.

Regis took the lead early in the game, scoring two runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning after holding the Roadrunners to one hit and no runs in the top of the first. The Rangers were the next to score in the bottom of the second, hitting one out of the park to extend their lead to 3-0.

MSU Denver made a comeback in the top of the third to score two runs on the Rangers. Senior
Jake Thurston (Centennial, Colo./Grandview H.S.) lead off the inning hitting a single to make it on base. Ekman then reached base on balls followed by Maloney reaching on a Ranger fielding error. With the bases loaded, Thurston scored the first run for the Roadrunners on a balk. Kennedy would then send Ekman home with a sacrifice fly, cutting the lead to 3-2 heading into the bottom of the third.

In the bottom of the third, with Rangers on second and third base, Regis would score two more runs to take a 5-2 lead. The Rangers followed up in the fourth inning scoring two more runs off three hits to take a 7-2 lead.

The Roadrunners scored a run in the fifth inning cutting the lead to 7-3. With Maloney and O'Donnell on base, Kennedy hit a double to add another RBI to the day scoring Maloney.

The Rangers would continue to put the pressure on the Roadrunners scoring four more runs in the game and holding the Roadrunners to their three.

The Roadrunners will host the Rangers at the Regency Athletic Complex on Friday, April 7 at 12 noon.
