Denver, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's and women's tennis teams competed against Newman University on Saturday, September 13.  The men fell in a close 5-4 match and the women fell 6-3.
 
The Roadrunners were swept in all three of their singles matches against the Jets.

1. Batistella/Norbiato (NU) def. Graetz/Tscherne (MSUD): 8-3
2. Rojo/ Coiras (NU) def. Martinez-Morilla/Lloerente (MSUD): 8-6
3. Puztay/Soome (NU) def. Kaltenbacher/Hayes (MSUD): 8-3

 
The Roadrunners made a big comeback in the singles matches to take four of the six and almost complete a comeback.

2. Tscherne (MSUD) def. Rojo (NU): 6-2, 6-3
3. Martinez-Morilla (MSUD) def. Crawford (NU): 6-2, 2-5, 10-7
4. Norbiato (NU) def. Llorente (MSUD): 4-6, 6-4, 10-7
5. Kaltenbacher (MSUD) def. Puztay (NU): 6-2, 2-6, 10-7
6. Soome (NU) def. Hayes. (MSUD): 6-3, 6-0

 
On the women's side, MSU Denver took two of the three doubles matches.

2. Porter/Xiao (MSUD) def. Stainnova/Packer (NU): 8-1
3. Rijk/Young (NU) def. Pessoa/ Hotan (MSUD): 8-3

 
On singles, sophomore Tabitha Porter (Norwich, England/Northcote College) grabbed the only win for the Roadrunners at No. 1 singles. With all the others being close matches.

The men and women will both compete at the Air Force Invitation next Friday, September 22 and Saturday, September 23.
