@MSUDenverTennis: Roadrunners Hit the Road for the Weekend

Both men and women are ranked fifth in the region

DENVER – MSU Denver's men's and women's tennis programs are back in action this weekend, with a mixture of opponents scheduled.

The men's team faces Division I opponent Southern Utah on Friday at 1 p.m. in Greeley, Colo., then the men and women both head to St. George, Utah, for competition hosted by Dixie State on Sunday and Monday.

The men have an exhibition against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foe Colorado Mesa at 9 a.m. Sunday, followed by a regional dual with Western New Mexico at 2 p.m.

The women face Western New Mexico at 8 a.m. Sunday, then square off with Stanislaus State (Calif.) at 2 p.m. The Roadrunners' women have a final dual, against Dixie State, at 9 a.m. Monday.

Both MSU Denver teams are ranked fifth in the South Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

"We're looking forward to getting out on the road," MSU Denver coach Josh Graetz (Albury, Australia/The Scots School) said.

The men's team beat Oklahoma Baptist on Feb. 1 to open its spring season before falling 6-1 to Division I Air Force on Feb. 4.

Daniel Llorente (Malaga, Spain/) won both his matches at No. 3 singles.

"The guys are competing really well, giving absolutely everything out on the court, which is all I can really ask of them," Graetz said. "I'm very impressed with Danny. He's competing at a very high level out there."

The women's team lost to Division I Northern Colorado on Feb. 1 before bouncing back with a 5-2 win over Division II opponent Oklahoma Baptist on Feb. 2.

Helena Steenberg (Skodsborg, Denmark/Naerum Gymnasium, Naerum, Denmark) won both of her singles matches and earned Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference player of the week honors.

"Helena has been great," Graetz said. "She's one of the more talented players I've seen. She's only going to get better and better, which is the exciting part about her game. I expect her to have another positive weekend."
