On This Date (Oct. 17, 2017): Sturges, Laraway Lead Roadrunners to Win Over No,. 9 Regis

Victory is 10th straight for MSU Denver

 
DENVER – It was three years ago today, Oct. 17, 2017, that Santaisha Sturges had 19 kills and 25 digs, Stephanie Laraway had 17 kills on .485 hitting while adding eight block assists, and Alyssa Svalberg set 55 assists, as the MSU Denver volleyball team beat No. 9 Regis 3-2 (28-30, 23-25, 26-24, 25-17, 18-16) for its 10th straight victory.
 
The Roadrunners improved to 13-6 overall and 10-1 in the RMAC.
 
That performance highlights our latest installment of "On This Date in Roadrunners History," which looks back at the biggest accomplishments in MSU Denver athletics on that particular calendar day.

2015 – Ryan Hoerdemann had 12 kills on .550 hitting as the MSU Denver volleyball team hit .337 and beat Western New Mexico 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-11) for its ninth straight win, improving to 14-5 overall and 9-2 in the RMAC.
 
2014 – Karisa Price scored a first-half goal and the No. 15 MSU Denver women's soccer team won 1-0 at Colorado Christian for its sixth straight win, improving to 10-1-2 overall and 7-0-2 in the RMAC.
 
2014 – Abbie Noland had 13 kills and Savannah Garcia had 28 digs as the No. 23 MSU Denver volleyball team won 3-1 (25-13, 22-25, 28-26, 25-23) at Regis to improve to 16-3 overall and 10-1 in the RMAC.
 
2013 – Kylie Haun had 20 kills and 10 digs as the MSU Denver volleyball team beat CSU-Pueblo 3-2 (23-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-16, 15-5) to improve to 6-3 in the RMAC.
 
2010 – Becca Medina scored the tying goal late in the first half and Sarah Tanous had six saves as the No. 11 MSU Denver women's soccer team played No. 6 Fort Lewis to a 1-1 tie.
 
2009 – Bri Morley had 13 kills on .385 hitting and Amy Watanabe had 20 digs as the No. 21 MSU Denver volleyball team won 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 26-24) at CSU-Pueblo to improve to 16-6 overall and 9-4 in the RMAC.
 
2008 – Ola Sandquist assisted on second-half goals by Kellen Johnson and Scott Grode as the No. 18 MSU Denver men's soccer team beat No. 24 Colorado School of Mines 2-0 as the Roadrunners improved to 8-3-3 overall and 5-1-2 in the RMAC.
 
2006 – Stefanie Allison had 15 kills, four service aces and 10 digs as the MSU Denver volleyball team beat Colorado Christian 3-0 (33-31, 30-17, 30-21) for its eighth straight win, improving to 15-8 overall and 12-4 in the RMAC.
 
*2004 – Phillip Owen had two goals and an assist while starting his MSU Denver men's soccer program record-tying streak of scoring at least one goal in five consecutive games, and Antonio Porras scored a goal and had three assists in a 9-0 victory against Colorado Christian. The Roadrunners improved to 10-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the RMAC. The Roadrunners took 38 shots, putting 19 on goal.
 
2004 – Amy Leichliter had two goals and an assist as the eventual national champion and then-No. 3 MSU Denver women's soccer team beat Adams State 7-0 for its third straight shutout victory and 13th straight win overall to improve to 15-1 and 9-0 in the RMAC. The Roadrunners extended their RMAC winning streak 26 and their RMAC unbeaten streak to 37.
 
2003 – Ymara Guante had a goal and an assist and Mandy Allen made seven saves as the MSU Denver women's soccer team won 3-0 at Colorado Mesa to improve to 13-0-1 overall and 8-0 in the RMAC, extending its league winning streak to 11 and its league unbeaten streak to 22.
 
2003 – Jessy Roy had 18 kills and 20 digs as the No. 6 MSU Denver volleyball team beat Fort Lewis 3-0 (30-15, 30-23, 30-22) for its eighth straight win, improving to 18-4 overall and 12-1 in the RMAC.
 
2002 – Beth Vercic and Nicki Fusco each had 13 kills and Devon Herron set 45 assists as the No. 12 MSU Denver volleyball team won 3-0 (35-33, 30-21, 30-17) at Adams State for its 12th straight win, improving to 17-4 overall and 12-0 in the RMAC.
 
1999 – Patricia Dionne, Chris Brink and Tiffany Baird each had 13 kills as the MSU Denver volleyball team set a still-standing program record for attacks in a three-set match with 180 in a 3-0 (15-10, 15-12, 15-12) win against against Fort Lewis.
 
1999 – Janice Armstrong scored on a penalty kick at 75:57 and Kari Pierce scored at 94:26 as the MSU Denver women's soccer team came from behind to beat CSU-Pueblo 2-1 in overtime. The Roadrunners improved to 11-5 overall and 6-3 in the RMAC.
 
1998 – Amy Buchanan had 13 kills on .385 hitting as the No. 20 MSU Denver volleyball team won 3-0 (15-2, 15-8, 15-1) at Adams State for its fifth straight sweep to improve to 15-7 overall and 11-1 in the RMAC.
 
*1997 – Shannon Wise set the still-standing MSU Denver women's soccer program record for latest game-tying goal, scoring with 21 seconds left, and then Alissa Allen chipped a shot over the goalkeeper at 97:45 as the Roadrunners won 3-2 in overtime against New Mexico Highlands. Wise also had an assist as MSU Denver overcame a two-goal deficit late in the first half.
 
1993 – Billy Kawamura scored two goals as the MSU Denver men's soccer team beat Fort Lewis 3-0.
 
1993 – Rosie Durbin and Shawna Artzer each had a goal and an assist as the MSU Denver women's soccer team beat Scranton (Pa.) 3-0.
 
1992 – The still-standing MSU Denver men's soccer program-record streaks of 12 straight home wins and 19 straight unbeaten home games came to an end in a 2-1 overtime defeat to CSU-Pueblo.
 
1992 – Stacy Goldsberry had 20 kills on .567 hitting as the No. 7 MSU Denver volleyball team beat No. 25 Air Force 3-0 (15-8, 15-11, 15-6) to improve to 16-5 overall and 6-1 in the Colorado Athletic Conference.
 
1989 – David Michael and Chris Kalman scored goals as the MSU Denver men's soccer team beat Colorado Christian 2-0.
 
1989 – Nancy Kogle had 19 kills on .349 hitting, 17 digs and three service aces as the No. 13 MSU Denver volleyball team beat Air Force 3-0 (15-6, 19-17, 15-12) to improve to 20-7 overall.
 
1987 – The MSU Denver volleyball team set a still-standing program record for digs in a three-set match with 114 (including 22 by Sharee Blunt, 21 by Verna Julaton and 20 by Julie Theander) in a 2-1 win (15-9, 11-15, 16-14) against Carroll (Mont.).
 
1978 – The MSU Denver volleyball team, en route to a 36-0 start to the season, beat Air Force 3-0 (15-6, 15-2, 15-8) to improve to 15-0.
