DENVER – It's hurdles day, as Day Six of our MSU Denver All-Time Track Meet features the two hurdles events for both men and women.
And while Darius Reed earns a win for his 2012 performance in the men's 110-meter hurdles, we have to travel back to the 1983 and 1984 seasons for our other winners: Bruce Jenkins in the men's 400 hurdles (1984), Kim Hall in the women's 100 hurdles (1984) and Geraldine Hall in the women's 400 hurdles (1983).
There are no more than five hurdlers on record who have competed for the Roadrunners in any of the four events featured today, adding more intrigue to the mix for our team races.
Jenkins' school-record time has helped the 1984 men's team close the 2014 team's lead to 22 points, 66-44.
Meanwhile, in the women's competition, the 2014 team has moved into a tie for first with the 2012 team at 47 points, thanks to Kyetiil Vicenti picking up five points in the 100 hurdles.
In the combined race, the 2014 team still leads comfortably with a 113-72 advantage over the second-place 2019 group, but the wins by Jenkins and Kim Hall have helped the 1984 team surge into third place with 64.
Though the complete information regarding the 1983 and 1984 hurdles records aren't presently available, Reed's mark in the 110 hurdles is. He ran his school-record time in preliminaries at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships on May 25, 2012, qualifying in second place. He finished third in the finals, though his time of 13.71 isn't eligible for the list since it was wind-aided.
We've pored through the record books – and trust us, the pre-1987 era is quite sketchy and incomplete – to find the top eight performers in every event in MSU Denver history.
We're scoring the meet (10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1), with each year representing a team. Each individual gets only his or her best-ever time or performance, so no one is in the top eight more than once in any individual event. Relays are ranked by the best time for each year, so it is possible for an individual to be in the top eight in more than one relay.
We're adding up the points and using the totals to determine our best team ever in both men's and women's track & field, as well as the best combined team in program history.
The schedule of events is listed below the results and updated team scores.
We're also tracking individual point totals (dividing relay point totals by four), and here's the updated top eight:
