@MSUDenverXCTF: Rust Sets Record, Williams Earns Podium as Roadrunners Compete at RMAC Championships

PUEBLO, Colo. – MSU Denver Outdoor Track & Field opened competition at the RMAC Outdoor Championships, hosted by the CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves, with two days of action in the books and the meet set to conclude Sunday.

The Roadrunners saw standout performances across multiple events, highlighted by a record-breaking effort from Kathryn Rust and a podium finish from Isaiah Williams.

Rust delivered one of the top performances of the meet for MSU Denver, finishing seventh overall in the women's heptathlon with 4,626 points to earn points for the Roadrunners.

Her weekend was headlined by a historic run in the 100-meter hurdles, where she clocked a school-record time of 13.94—also ranking No. 21 in NCAA Division II this season. She followed that up with a strong showing across the board, including a second-place finish in the high jump (1.58m) and top-10 finishes in the shot put, long jump, and 200 meters.

Rust capped her heptathlon with a 2:40.81 in the 800 meters, solidifying one of the most complete performances of the weekend.

Teammate Jaelyn Korbe also competed in the heptathlon, finishing 19th with 2,962 points, highlighted by her best mark coming in the javelin (28.89m).

On the men's side, Williams delivered the Roadrunners' top finish of the meet so far, clearing 2.00 meters in the high jump to place second overall and earn a spot on the podium.

MSU Denver had several athletes position themselves for strong finishes heading into finals:

  • Anthony Martinez (14.34) and Trenton Smith (14.80) advanced in the men's 110-meter hurdles prelims, placing second and seventh, respectively.
  • Kenny Greene ran 47.33 to take second in the 400-meter prelims and also qualified in the 200 meters (21.51).
  • On the women's side, Odone Omofoma continued her strong season, advancing in both the 100 meters (11.89, fifth) and 200 meters (24.85, third).
  • Arianna Toaipa advanced in the 400 meters (56.92, sixth), while Delaney Pighetti narrowly missed a finals spot in the 100 hurdles.

In distance events, Jordan Duran (31:31.19) and Jonathan Duran (31:40.83) finished just outside the top 10 in the men's 10,000 meters, while Abi Read led the women in the same event with a 13th-place finish.

The Roadrunners also saw solid efforts in the steeplechase from Carlos Cheruiyot and Rachel Wheeler.

In the field events, Jacob Bowler led the way in the discus with an eighth-place throw (45.82m), while Raziah Hyslop posted a seventh-place finish in the women's discus (41.22m). Joseph Barlow added a mid-pack finish in the long jump.

With multiple finalists set and momentum building, the Roadrunners will look to close strong on Sunday as the RMAC Championships come to a close.
