MSU Denver All-Time Track: Day 3 Includes 100 Meters, Throwing Events

Clarke helps 2014 teams pad leads, Hughes scores win for 2007 women

DENVER – Our MSU Denver All-Time Track Meet rolls into Day Three today with the top eight performers recognized, for both men and women, in the 100 meters, as well as the handful of throwing competitors on record in program history.

The 2014 men's team and combined team continues to run away with their competitions, but the 2012 women's team lead in that race has been tightened.

Today's winners in the 100 meters are Jon Clarke for the 2014 men's team and Sheila Hughes for the 2007 women's team.

Clarke ran his program record-setting time of 10.44 seconds during the preliminaries at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships. He came back the following day to finish third in 10.47 seconds.

Hughes' record in the women's 100 is now 13 years old and dates to the resumption of the track & field programs at MSU Denver following a 20-year absence. Hughes ran a hand-held 12.0 (which converts to 12.24) for third place at the RMAC Championships but her best stands as an electronic 12.09 on March 31, 2007.

We've pored through the record books – and trust us, the pre-1987 era is quite sketchy and incomplete – to find the top eight performers in every event in MSU Denver history.

We're scoring the meet (10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1), with each year representing a team. Each individual gets only his or her best-ever time or performance, so no one is in the top eight more than once in any individual event. Relays are ranked by the best time for each year, so it is possible for an individual to be in the top eight in more than one relay.

Field events are a bit of a wild card at MSU Denver, particularly in anything other than the long jump or triple jump. So, the handful of times that the Roadrunners have had a participant in a field event, those can be big in our virtual meet, regardless of the quality of that performance.

Others picking up 10 points for their respective teams today are Nathon Lindberg (who scored 20 for his efforts in the men's discus and hammer throw, 1982), Gruenwald (no first name on record) in the men's shot put from 1980, Amy Nelson (women's shot put, 2013), Chelsea Williamson (women's discus, 2010), Christie (no first name on record) in the men's javelin from 1971 and Teagan Garand (women's javelin, 2019).

We're adding up the points and using the totals to determine our best team ever in both men's and women's track & field, as well as the best combined team in program history.

The schedule of events is listed below the results and updated team scores.

After 10 events, the 2014 men and the 2012 women are still leading their respective team races, while the 2014 team has taken a commanding lead in the combined race.

The 2014 men have 46 points, with the 1984 squad still second with 26 and Lindberg's double win moving the 1982 team into third with 20.

The 2012 women have 44 points, with the 2013 team jumping in to second place with 32 and the 2014 team third with 26.

In the combined race, the 2014 team has stretched its lead to 28 points over the second-place 2012 team, 72-44, but there is tightly contested battle for second that includes 2013 (39 ½) and 2017 (39).
