COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Former MSU Denver women's soccer player Erica Torres was recently awarded a grant from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Academic Success Committee to assist in the completion of her degree.
 
The Dr. Stephen M. Jordan Degree Completion Award is named after the former MSU Denver President who initiated the program.
 
Torres finished her MSU Denver career first in program history with 65 games started in goal, second with 294 career saves and 68 games played in goal, third in shutouts (25), fourth in saves per game (4.32), tied for fourth in wins (30), seventh in goals against average (0.98), and eighth in save percentage (.812).
 
She was a three-time member of the Academic All-RMAC honor roll and has been named to the MSU Denver Athletic Director's Honor Roll (minimum 3.5 grade-point average) in five of her first seven semesters. She is also a past member of the All-RMAC second team for her play on the field, and she was named RMAC Goalkeeper of the Week four times during her career.
 
She recently received the Rowdy Award, which is dedicated to everything it means to represent the Roadrunners on and off the field of competition.
 
The conference budgets $30,000 each year in the conference grant funded by NCAA Division II to provide degree completion awards to RMAC student-athletes that have exhausted their eligibility.
 
For students who should complete their degree in Fall 2020, they will receive $2,000 for that semester. For students that should complete their degree in Spring 2021, they will receive $1,500 each semester in 2020-21.
