@MSUDenverVB: No. 1 Roadrunners Return Home for Matches Thursday, Friday

Thursday is Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night, while No. 24 rival Regis comes in Friday

DENVER – How's life as the No. 1 team in the country?

"It's the same as it was when we were No. 2," MSU Denver coach Jenny Glenn said. We're handling it well. Everyone is coming at us. Teams are serving bullets at us. (Being No. 1) is an awesome place to be, but you've got to show up every night because the other team is going to bring it. Even though the last two matches were 3-0 sweeps, both teams put pressure on us."

After three weeks at No. 2, MSU Denver moved up to No. 1 in NCAA Division II for the first time in program history last week ahead of a road trip to Adams State and New Mexico Highlands.

The Roadrunners return home to the Auraria Event Center to play at home for the first time at a No. 1 team this week, with 7 p.m. matches Thursday against Colorado Christian and Friday against 24th-ranked rival Regis.

Thursday is Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night. In a pre-game ceremony, faculty and staff members invited by MSU Denver players will be recognized in a pre-game ceremony on the court, and then all faculty and staff members in attendance in the crowd will be recognized.  As always, faculty and staff are admitted free to regular-season MSU Denver athletic events with their campus ID.

MSU Denver's 16-match winning streak, which has the Roadrunners at 18-2 overall and 12-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, will be put to the test.

Colorado Christian is 9-11 overall and 6-6 in the RMAC, but took Colorado Mesa to five sets the night after MSU Denver needed to come from two sets down to beat the Mavericks 3-2 on Oct. 1.

"That's a scary crew," Glenn said. "It's a young roster, but they are talented. It's helpful that we have more experience. They've had some really key kids out, so their record doesn't reflect what they're capable of."

Regis is 16-4 and 11-1 to stand alone in second place in the RMAC behind MSU Denver.

The Rangers beat then-No. 7 Colorado School of Mines 3-2 at home one week after MSU Denver beat the then-No. 6 Orediggers 3-2 on Oct. 16.

"It's a rivalry match, and they're playing a lot better late in the season," Glenn said. "They had some new pieces early on and those things are ironing themselves out. It should be a really fun match. It always is. They have some familiar faces on the other side of the net and some new ones, too. It will be fun to see how we match up."
