SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – Antonella Blanco and
Isabel Botero each carded rounds of 5-over-par 77 to lead MSU Denver to a sixth-place tie Saturday at the Wasatch Invitational women's golf tournament.
Blanco, a true freshman, finished the tournament tied for fifth individually at 6-over 150, while Botero tied for 17
th after totaling 80-77-157.
"Anto had a great tournament overall," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "I know she had a few three-putts today that were frustrating, but she just had a really solid event.
"Isa was steady today and finished really strong."
Both Blanco and Botero had one birdie and had no hole worse than bogey.
True freshman
Mackenzie Carpenter had two birdies in her round of 80 and tied for 33
rd at 17-over for the tournament at 161, while
Winnie Shaw and
Sydney Eye each shot 82 Saturday and finished tied for 35
th (162) and tied for 43
rd (163), respectively.
The Roadrunners opened the day tied for fourth after scoring 314 Friday, and dropped into a sixth-place tie in the 14-team field despite regressing by only two strokes to 316.
"It was a little tough to see us back up today, but the girls really stayed tough during some horrible weather this morning," Ferguson said. "I'm so proud of them for their attitudes and for just sticking with it."
The Roadrunners return to Colorado and play Monday and Tuesday at the Sam Proal Invitational in Pueblo, Colo.
