@MSUDenverWBB: Haave Announces Recruiting Class of 5

List includes three guards and two forwards

DENVER – MSU Denver coach Tanya Haave has announced that five players have signed national letters-of-intent to play for the Roadrunners beginning with the 2022-23 season.
 
All five will be freshmen, with three from Colorado. There are three guards and two forwards.
 
A capsule look at the recruits:
 
Mikylah Espinosa | G | 5-8 | Denver | The Academy
 
Coach Tanya Haave: "Mikylah is a special athlete who is just beginning to realize her potential as a basketball player. She has improved greatly and we are looking forward to seeing her progress during her senior season. In the recruiting process, we saw Mikylah doing things on the court that you can't teach athletically, and we are excited to start coaching her next season."
 
High School:
  • Three-time All-Frontier League first team selection
  • Has averaged 16.7 points and 6.6 steals per game in 56 career games through her junior season
  • Also has career averages of 4.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.9 blocked shots per game through her junior year
  • Has led Wildcats teams to a 55-5 record and three trips to the Class 3A Sweet 16 in her first three seasons
  • In nine games as a junior in 2020-21, averaged 18.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 6.2 steals and 1.2 blocked shots
  • Entered her senior season with 936 career points
  • Shot 50.0 percent from the field (392 of 782) through her junior season, Academic team championship award winner
  • Has lettered her first three seasons
 
Brooklynn Jones | G | 5-7 | Colby, Kan. | Colby HS
Coach Tanya Haave: "Brooklyn is a sharpshooter who will be a great addition to our program as we are losing a great shooter in Maggie Justinak. Shooters are not born, but made, and Brooklynn's ability to shoot the ball so well is the result of many hours of work which demonstrates the work ethic that we are looking for in all of our players.  She also is a strong guard which will help her be a dependable, durable player for us.  Brooklynn will also a valuable addition to the MSU Denver Track and Field team throwing the javelin.  We can hardly wait for her to get to campus."
 
High School:
  • Has scored 767 career points heading into her senior year
  • As a junior averaged 15.9 points, 3.4 assists
  • All-state second team and All-GWAC first team as a junior
  • All-state honorable mention and All-GWAC second team as a sophomore
  • Averaged 10.6 points as a freshman and 10.3 as a sophomore
  • All-GWAC honorable mention as a freshman
  • Placed fourth at the Class 3A-4A state track & field meet in the javelin as a junior with a personal-best effort of 134 feet, 10 inches after winning regional and GWAC championships
  • All-GWAC second team in volleyball as a junior after earning honorable mention in volleyball as a sophomore
  • National Honor Society member
  • Earned Student of the Month for Integrity as a senior
 
Brianna Sealy | F | 5-11 | Colorado Springs, Colo. | Air Academy
Coach Tanya Haave"Brianna is an explosive athlete who played for outstanding programs and coaches both at the high school and club level. She will be a welcome addition to our interior game as she is a solid rebounder and defender with great potential on the offensive end of the court."
 
High School:
  • Enters her senior season with career averages of 9.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game
  • All-Pikes Peak League, 2020-21
  • As a junior, averaged 10.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game
  • Has shot 54.8 percent from the field (148 of 270) as a sophomore and junior
  • All-region third team selection
  • Averaged 8.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals as a sophomore
  • Kadets are 28-12 in her first two seasons with the program
  • Also played two seasons of volleyball, finishing her career with 131 service aces and 120 digs
  • Southern Arizona All-Freshman first team selection
  • Turned in averages of 8.4 points and 9.7 rebounds as a freshman at Marana High School in Tucson, Ariz.

Shayne Young | F | 5-11 | Fort Collins, Colo. | Fort Collins
Coach Tanya Haave: "Shayne possesses a versatile skill set that allows her to play any position from point guard to forward. She also has a great understanding of the game and has spent countless hours perfecting a beautiful jump shot. We are looking forward to coaching Shayne."
 
High School:
  • All-Front Range League second team as a junior after earning honorable mention as a sophomore
  • Averaged 8.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 2.2 steals as a junior
  • Has 93 career made 3-pointers while scoring 428 points heading into her senior season
  • Averaged 8.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.6 steals as a sophomore
  • Career averages of 7.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.6 steals heading into her senior season
 
Ashlyn Yow | G | 5-6 | Wauwatosa, Wis. | Waukesha West
Coach Tanya Haave: "Ashlyn is a dynamic point guard who will provide depth for us at that position next season with the graduation of Alex Carlton and Maggie Justinak.  It was clear during the recruiting process that Ashlyn was a great fit for MSU Denver as she had done a tremendous amount of research on the school and the women's basketball program. She is fundamentally sound in all aspects of the game as well as possessing a high basketball IQ, a must for point guards."
 
High School:
  • All Classic 8 Conference first team
  • In 14 games during the 2020-21 season, averaged 10.5 points, 3.0 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.9 steals while connecting on 39 percent of her 3-point attempts
  • Has also competed in golf and track & field
  • Waukesha West Student-Athlete of the Month, March of 2021
