LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The No. 19 MSU Denver baseball team swept its doubleheader against New Mexico Highlands on Saturday, 11-3 and 15-2, behind stellar pitching and timely hitting.
The afternoon started off with a phenomenal pitching performance by
Austin Stone in game one. After giving up a run in the first, Stone settled into the game and shut down the Cowboys' offense for the remainder of the game, earning his second victory on the year.
Stone pitched a seven-inning complete game striking out six while and giving up three runs on nine hits.
Stone got some help from a hot MSU Denver offense which put up 11 runs on 14 hits. The offense was led by
Bill Ralston, who put on another hitting clinic at the plate going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run, and five RBIs. Ralston added another RBI in game two of the double header to give him 12 RBIs on the weekend entering the final game of the series.
Chase Anderson continued to build on his current hit streak by adding two more games to bring his total to 15 games. Anderson had three hits in the first game and two in the second.
Caleb Albaugh did his part at the top of the lineup as well by getting on base for Ralston with two hits of his own. Albaugh and Anderson combined for five runs on the day and are finding their stride at the top of this potent lineup.
In game two, MSU Denver walked away with a 15-2 victory in seven innings behind a strong six-inning performance by
Reichle Arcilise, who went six innings, giving up four hits and one run with a total of five strikeouts.
Arcilise received offensive support from Anderson,
Jake Williams, Ralston, and
Owen Reynolds to give the Roadrunners a total of 15 runs on 15 hits.
Williams went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs in the second game .
The dominant pitching continues for the Roadrunners as they improved to 10-1 in the RMAC and 14-1 overall.
They'll look to complete the series sweep tomorrow at noon (MDT).
