DENVER – The next step in the progression for the MSU Denver men's soccer team comes this weekend.
For the first time, the Roadrunners will play two games, Friday at 3 p.m. at Regis and Sunday at 10 a.m. against Westminster.
"It'll be a good test," MSU Denver coach
Nick Kirchhof said. "We had a positive performance last weekend and we really are trying to take it game by game and improve a little each week.
"The good thing about this weekend is that there will be more opportunities for more players to contribute. The guys are hungry and excited to hopefully get two good games in against two good opponents.'
MSU Denver evened its record at 1-1 last week with a 1-0 victory over South Dakota Mines in its first RMAC game of the season.
"We showed great composure and were able to pass really well," Kirchhof said. "Our movements were good, and we scored a great goal, which we've been working on in training, to have that complete performance from the entire team. The players understood their role, and executed what we've asked in training."
Regis is x-x, while Westminster comes to the Regency Athletic Complex at 0-1-1.
Kirchhof, the Roadrunners' first year coach, hasn't focused on an overly elaborate game plan for either foe.
"We've honestly just focused on ourselves, getting our guys on the same page, and making sure we control what we can control," he said.
Freshman
Parker Landry earned RMAC Defensive Player of the Week after assisting on
Aaron Biggerstaff's goal, putting another shot on goal, and playing all 90 minutes as the Roadrunners put up a clean sheet.
"Parker is one of the guys who is working hard and asking questions," Kirchhof said. "He's been one of our better players in training, and I'm real pleased to see him get that recognition."
Biggerstaff is another freshman with a bright future.
"Aaron is someone who is desperate to score goals, and he celebrates scoring goals in training – and I love that about him," Kirchhof said. "He's growing and getting better, and he definitely has a chance to be an impact player for us. He's got those natural tendencies for finishing that all coaches are looking for in a player."
