@MSUDenverVB: Roadrunners Ready for Regular-Season Finale

Balanced MSU Denver wants to stay sharp for RMAC Tournament

DENVER – No. 4 MSU Denver wraps up the volleyball regular season Wednesday with a 6 p.m. home match with UCCS.

The Roadrunners (12-1 overall, 10-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) are the likely No. 2 seed for the RMAC Tournament next week, with regular-season league champion and national No. 2 Colorado Mesa as the host.

"Our focus is staying sharp," MSU Denver coach Jenny Glenn said. "We're working on things that we'll need not only against UCCS but also in the next week. I think we have a pretty motivated group right now. There is a lot of motivation to win the RMAC Tournament. Each day we're grinding and trying to get a little better at things that we know will be needed this week and next week."

UCCS is 4-8 overall and 4-6 in the RMAC.

"They're athletic, and when they're in-system they're trying to run the ball really fast," Glenn said. "So we need to be prepared for some speed to the pins, which I hope we can handle because we see speed in our gym as well. They're a pretty good passing team, so we'll need to serve aggressively as usual to try to keep them out of system and make them more defendable."

The well-balanced Roadrunners rank first or second in the league in multiple categories, including aces per set, blocks per set, digs per set, hitting percentage, kills per set and opponent hitting percentage.

Rylee Hladky (first in kills per set, first in points per set, sixth in aces per set), Kayla White (fourth in points per set, ninth in aces per set, 10th in kills per set), Ember Canty (second in blocks per set), Mikayla McClinton (fourth in hitting percentage, fifth in blocks per set), Avaline Lai (sixth in hitting percentage), Ashlyn Cianciulli (sixth in digs per set) and Joli Sadler (10th in assists per set) all rank among the RMAC's top 10 in at least one category, while Jessa Megenhardt is just out of the top 10 in two categories.

"If we're in system we're really hard to defend because we can get the ball anywhere," Glenn said. "We don't really have a glaring weakness, and we have a lot of strengths. The trick is to make sure we're accessing those strengths and utilizing them well. On any given day, we can go to a different person. Different people are our top performers pretty much every match. Our strength is in the unit."
