Sprinter attempting to win program's first individual title since 2009

DENVER – MSU Denver's Blaize Holland races for Roadrunners history this weekend.

The sprinter from Aurora, Colo., will compete at the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships in Allendale, Mich., in both the 100 and 200 meters.

He is attempting to become the program's second-ever outdoor national champion, and the first since Anthony Luna won the 800 title in 2009.

He could also become the program's first All-American outdoors since Michael Warburton in the 1,500 meters in 2015.

Holland's weekend starts Thursday with preliminaries in the 100, which are set for 1:30 p.m. MDT. The prelims for the 200 are Friday at 12:45. Finals on Saturday include the 100 at 12:20 and the 200 at 1:20.

Holland is tied for sixth in Division II in the 200 meters this season with an altitude-converted time of 20.92 seconds and ranks 12th in the 100 with a converted 10.41.

He won both events at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships on May 2 and was later named the RMAC Male Track Athlete of the Year. He earned All-South Central Region recognition from the coaches' association for ranking second in the region in the 200 and fourth in the 100.

He set school records in both events, with raw times of 10.38 in the 100 and 20.85 in the 200.

Holland is MSU Denver's first national outdoor qualifier since Michael Dike made the field in 2018 in the 400 meters, and is only the Roadrunners' second national qualifier outdoors since 2015.

Holland is the first Roadrunner to qualify for the outdoor nationals in two events since Jon Clarke finished 19th in the 100 and 20th in the 200 in 2014.
