THORNTON, Colo. – Winnie Shaw shot a second-round 79 to lead the MSU Denver women's golf team in a grueling 36-hole day to open the season at the Swan Memorial.
The Roadrunners are in 14
th place in the 19-team field through two rounds of the three-round tournament that concludes Tuesday.
"Today overall was not our best," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "The girls made some nice improvements from round one to round two, but we made too many mistakes. It's early in the year and we have some great things to improve on going forward."
After compiling a team score of 53-over-par 341 on the first 18, the Roadrunners came back to shoot 331 for the second round.
MSU Denver started strong as
Isabel Botero, Shaw and
Sydney Eye all posted birdies within their first eight holes, but the Roadrunners weren't able to sustain the early momentum.
Shaw shot 82-79 for 17-over 161 and is tied for 31
st individually. Eye is tied for 68
th at 169, while Botero and
Courtney Lawler are tied for 78
th at 172.
