MSU Denver 15th after opening round

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Led by solid rounds from Sydney Eye and Isabel Botero, MSU Denver is tied for 15th after the opening day of the RJGA Shootout at Estrella.

The Roadrunners were hoping for a bit more, though.

"Today was frustrating because we did a ton of really good things but the scores just weren't there," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "Too many bogeys and doubles but saw some great birdies, too. The girls are close to some really good things. We're just trying to stay patient."

Eye was among the leaders most of the day after scoring birdies on two of her first four holes, and she was even through nine holes before eventually finishing at 8-over-par 80. Botero had a birdie on her final hole, giving her a 3-over 39 for her final nine holes to also finish at 80. They are tied for 52nd in the 104-player field. Winnie Shaw, who had two birdies, is tied for 61st at 9-over.

The Roadrunners shot 36-over 324 and finished just nine strokes out of the top 10. The second and final round takes place Tuesday.
