GOODYEAR, Ariz. – True freshman
Antonella Blanco fired a second-round score of 4-over par 76 to cap her first collegiate tournament and lead MSU Denver on Tuesday at the RJGA Shootout at Estrella.
Blanco finished the two-round tournament on the 6,087-yard par 72 Golf Club of Estrella course at 15-over 159, and she moved up 29 spots on the second day to tie for 44
th individually. Also in the group tied at 15-over was
Winnie Shaw, who followed up a first-round 81 with a second-round 78.
"Winnie and Antonella both had solid days today that could have been even better," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "I know they both were upset with the rounds yesterday, so it was nice to see a turnaround today."
Isabel Botero tied for 58
th at 80-81-161, while
Mackenzie Carpenter and
Sydney Eye each finished at 169.
As a team, the Roadrunners placed tied for 15
th in the 19-team field. They improved their team score by five strokes Tuesday for a score of 324-319-643, putting them 31-over for the day and 67-over for the tournament.
"Overall still way too many big numbers on the cards, but I'm seeing some better things from all of the girls," Ferguson said.
