PUEBLO, Colo. – MSU Denver's Vaijayanti Bharkhada is tied for fifth place and Mackenzie Carpenter is tied for 11^th after the first day of the Sam Proal Invitational women's golf tournament.
 
Bharkhada finished at 3-over par 75 on the 6,190-yard Pueblo Country Club course. She had three birdies in her round and was 2-under through 12 holes. Carpenter, who shot 5-over 77, was 2-over through 13.
 
"V and Mack played solid golf today," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "I'm proud of both of them for overall good days."

As a team, the Roadrunners shot 26-over-par 314 and are in fourth place in the 10-team field, seven strokes out of second.
 
Winnie Shaw and Isabel Botero both shot 81 to complete the Roadrunners' team total.

"Putting was a struggle today and we just made small mistakes all day that gave strokes away," Ferguson said.
 
The tournament concludes with another 18 rounds Tuesday.
