PUEBLO, Colo. – MSU Denver's
Vaijayanti Bharkhada is tied for fifth place and
Mackenzie Carpenter is tied for 11
th after the first day of the Sam Proal Invitational women's golf tournament.
Bharkhada finished at 3-over par 75 on the 6,190-yard Pueblo Country Club course. She had three birdies in her round and was 2-under through 12 holes. Carpenter, who shot 5-over 77, was 2-over through 13.
"V and Mack played solid golf today," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "I'm proud of both of them for overall good days."
As a team, the Roadrunners shot 26-over-par 314 and are in fourth place in the 10-team field, seven strokes out of second.
Winnie Shaw and
Isabel Botero both shot 81 to complete the Roadrunners' team total.
"Putting was a struggle today and we just made small mistakes all day that gave strokes away," Ferguson said.
The tournament concludes with another 18 rounds Tuesday.
