MSU Denver to play four matches in four days in four locations

DENVER – The nature of college tennis often includes road trips with multiple matches in consecutive days.

And that's what the MSU Denver men's and women's teams will be doing this weekend, with four duals in four days in four places.

This time around, it's Kansas and Missouri.

"We've been doing trips to Texas in previous years, and we wanted to mix it up this year," MSU Denver coach Josh Graetz said. "We did this trip my first year (as coach, in 2019). It will be a beneficial trip that will be good for the program, and since it's all Division II opponents it should help us in the national and regional rankings. And we get to see a different part of country."

Starting times are fluid due to expected weather difficulties, but the Roadrunners are scheduled to play at Newman (Kan.) on Friday (men at 7 a.m. MST, women at 11 a.m.), at Emporia State (Kan.) on Saturday (women at 8 a.m., men at noon), at Rockhurst (Mo.) on Sunday (both teams at noon) and at William Jewell (Mo.) on Monday (both teams at 9 a.m.).

The Roadrunners have prepared for the resumption of the season with multiple exhibition matches against Division I opponents. In Division II duals in the fall, the Roadrunners' women were 1-2, while the men won their only dual.

MSU Denver also played in two individual tournaments in the fall, and thus far Ava Neuburger-Higby (6-4) has the best record for women's players, and has combined with Isabel Heras to post a 3-4 record in doubles. For the men, Jeanloup Auzias and Andy Caruana are both 5-2, while Caruana and Carlos Pinedo are a combined 4-3 in singles.

"I think we're in a really good spot," Graetz said. "The ladies are starting to get into a groove in doubles, and I'm excited about building on that. The guys are constantly getting better and building chemistry, and I hope that will flourish in the next four matches. This is a good opportunity for us to see where we're at."
