CHANDLER, Ariz. – Isabel Botero finished tied for seventh, and
Winnie Shaw and
Sydney Eye also placed among the top 15, as the MSU Denver women's golf team wrapped up its stay at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships with a highly-competitive sixth-place finish.
Botero, the first-round leader, negotiated the 6,015-yard, par-72 Whirlwind Golf Club Course at 5-over-par on Tuesday, and her three-day total of 70-76-77—223 was just three strokes outs of fourth place. MSU Denver has had four different top-10 individual finishers in the past four RMAC Championships.
Shaw shot 5-over Tuesday to tie for 13
th at 76-79-77—232. Eye, tied for 14
th last year, turned in the team's best round of the day at 4-over and finished tied for 15
th at 79-78-76—233.
"Isa, Winnie and Syd had a great end to the season, with a top 10 and two top 20s," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "They've worked so hard and it was great to see them have a solid three days."
Courtney Lawler was the Roadrunners' fourth scorer on Tuesday with an 83. For the tournament, Lawler tied for 43
rd at 34-over, and
Mackenzie Carpenter was 49
th at 40-over.
On Tuesday, MSU Denver matched its second-round score to finish four strokes out of fifth at 309-313-313—935.
"We struggled a little to finish this tournament as well as we wanted, but overall the girls have made great improvements throughout the year and have such bright futures ahead of them," Ferguson said. "I'm so proud of each one of them."
