AZUSA, Calif. – Nick Nowlen ran a personal-best time in the 800 meters Friday night at the Azusa Pacific (Calif.) Last Chance Meet, which could potentially keep alive his chances of qualifying for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships.
Nowlen finished ninth in a field of 57 in 1 minute, 50.46 seconds, improving upon his previous best – run on the same track last month – by 0.22 seconds. If no other competitor around the country improves this weekend, Nowlen would move from 39
th to 35
th on the national list in the event. The top 20 who declare they will compete in the event earn invitations to the national championships.
Nowlen's time improves his standing at No. 3 individually and No. 8 among all performances in the 800 at MSU Denver. National champion Anthony Luna ran six of the Roadrunners' top seven times in the event in the late 2000s, with the other belonging to Shawn Lindbom. Nowlen has the eighth- and ninth-best times in program history.
