THORNTON, Colo. – MSU Denver shot one of the better rounds in program history Monday to jump from 10
th place to seventh after the first 36 holes of the 54-hole Swan Memorial women's golf tournament.
"I'm really proud of the bounce back the girls had in the second round," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "They played really solid and finished great."
The Roadrunners' second-round total of 19-over-par 307 falls just outside the top 10 of the program's all-time teams scores, and it followed up a first-round total of 35-over 323. The tournament was 36 holes Monday and the final 18 holes are Tuesday at the 5,997-yard Todd Creek Golf Club.
Sydney Eye shot a 3-over-par 75 in the second round and, following up her first-round 80, is tied for 17
th at 155.
Vaijayanti Bharkhada shot 80-77 and is tied for 28
th at 13-over, while
Winnie Shaw (79-81) and
Courtney Lawler (84-76) are among those tied for 42
nd at 160.
Isabel Botero shot 84-79 and is tied for 50
th at 163.
Eye's 75 and Lawler's 76 were both career-best rounds – Lawler carded her first sub-80 score.
"This group is capable of still even better, but it's so fun to see them starting to put rounds together," Ferguson said. "We are so proud of Syd, Court and V, who had solid second rounds."
The Roadrunners enter Tuesday six strokes behind sixth-place CSU-Pueblo, and seven strokes behind fifth-place Cameron (Okla.). The second-round 307 was the fifth-best second round turned in by any team.
"We are excited for tomorrow, and we just need to eliminate some of the big numbers and we can make another jump to finish the tournament," Ferguson said.
