GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The MSU Denver women's golf team is in 12
th place after the opening day of the RJGA Shootout at Estrella.
The Roadrunners' score of 30-over par 318 is one stroke out of 11
th place and six out of the top 10 heading into tomorrow's second and final round at the 5,901-yard, par-72, Golf Club of Estrella Course.
"Overall it was a bit of a frustrating day," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "We just had a lot of small mistakes that added up against us.
"There's lots of room to make a jump tomorrow."
Vaijayanti Bharkhada shot 4-over 76 and is tied for 30
th place to lead the Roadrunners, while
Mackenzie Carpenter carded her fourth career sub-80 round with a 79 to tie for 53
rd in the 15-team, 84-player field.
"V had a very steady day with lots of good opportunities," Ferguson said. "And Mack had a great back nine (2-over) after a tough start and finished really strong."
Isabel Botero shot 80 for the Roadrunners, while
Winnie Shaw and
Courtney Lawler each carded 83s.
Tuesday's final round is set to start at 9 a.m. MDT.
