GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Rain and lightning forced postponements and rescheduling at the ITA West Regional tennis tournament on Friday, but not before MSU Denver played several matches.
In the Roadrunners' lone event in the main draw, the women's doubles team of
Marie Cool and
Hanna Haber were defeated by fourth-seeded foes Marleen Tilgner and Abigail Wild of Hawaii Pacific, 8-6.
MSU Denver also picked up a couple of nice victories.
In the round of 16 of the consolation bracket in women's singles,
Kambra Roles was an 8-6 winner over Alex Mann of Biola (Calif.), while Cool defeated Erica Hellbe of Academy of Art (Calif.) 8-5. Roles then moved into the semifinals with an 8-0 victory over Hideka Takamura of Cal State Los Angeles. Cool advanced as well after her opponent withdrew.
"Hanna and Marie played a great doubles set and worked well together in tough condition," MSU Denver coach Josh Graetz said. "We had some great wins by Marie and Kambra in singles today. They started to really find their groove."
Also Friday, in consolation play in the men's singles bracket, fifth-seeded
Jeanloup Auzias lost to third-seeded Jakub Beran 8-2. Earlier Beran had defeated MSU Denver's
Dayton Fisher 8-0.
MSU Denver did not participate in Saturday play.
