Box Score SPEARFISH, S.D. – The MSU Denver women's basketball team opened its two-game weekend road trip with a 58-38 loss Friday night at Black Hills State.
"The effort was there, but we just need to have a little better mental effort," MSU Denver coach
Tanya Haave said. "We got some good looks but didn't make them, and Black Hills did a good job of speeding us up. They converted some of our turnovers in points.
"I've got to do a better job of finding ways for us to score. We'll keep working on it."
Brooklynn Jones scored a season-high 15 points while making 3 of 5 from 3-point range.
MSU Denver dropped to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while Black Hills State improved to 5-2 and 2-1.
"We didn't give in, and we had good effort and those are positives," Haave said "They're tough on their home floor."
Other positive developments for the Roadrunners included the season debuts of veteran guard
Tosjanae Bonds and junior college transfer forward
Jackie Pippett.
"Tos' provides us with some experience," Haave said. "She was rusty tonight, but we're getting her integrated. Same with Jackie, she was rusty. This was a good night to get them going and doing some things."
