PUEBLO, Colo. – Vaijayanti Bharkhada and
Isabel Botero are both tied for 10
th individually and led MSU Denver to fourth place Sunday at the first day of the Pack Classic.
As a team, MSU Denver scored a round of 17-over-par 305 on the 6,000-yard, par-72 Walking Stick Golf Course, putting them sixth strokes behind first-place and 43
rd-ranked Colorado Christian.
Among the other teams trailing MSU Denver in the 15-team event are 31
st-ranked Western Washington, 46
th-ranked Simon Fraser (B.C.) and 50
th-ranked Sonoma State (Calif.).
MSU Denver has had only nine rounds better than 305 in the history of the program.
Bharkhada and Botero each shot 3-over par 75s and are four strokes off the lead. Bharkhada's round included four birdies (tied for the tournament lead), while Botero had no birdies but did have an eagle on the 459-yard, par-5 fifth hole.
Mackenzie Carpenter is tied for 22
nd after shooting 77, and
Sydney Eye is tied for 28
th after carding a 78. All five Roadrunners broke 80, as
Winnie Shaw shot 79.
The second and final round is set for 10 a.m. Monday.
