@MSUDenverWGOLF: Roadrunners Complete Terrific Tournament

Monday's 301, two-day total of 606, among best in program history

PUEBLO, Colo. – The MSU Denver women's golf team tied the third-best one-round score in program history and defeated three of the four nationally-ranked teams in the field while finishing fourth overall at the Pack Classic completed Monday.

Led by 1-over-par 73s from both Vaijayanti Bharkhada and Winnie Shaw, MSU Denver followed up its first-round score of 17-over 305 with a 13-over 301 on Monday, finishing the tournament at 30-over 606. Monday's 301 is three strokes off the program record, while the 606 is also the third-best two-round tournament at MSU Denver.

"I'm really happy for the girls and how they played this week," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "We beat three nationally-ranked teams and had nine scores in the 70s."

The Roadrunners finished eight strokes behind 43rd-ranked Colorado Christian, the tournament winner, while finishing ahead of 31st-ranked Western Washington, 46th-ranked Simon Fraser (B.C.) and 50th-ranked Sonoma State (Calif.).

Bharkhada birdied her first and last hole of the day and had only three bogeys in between for her 73 on the 6,000-yard, par-72 Walking Stick Golf Course. She finished the tournament tied for sixth overall at 4-over 148 after shooting a 75 on Sunday.

Shaw bogeyed her first hole, then recorded 13 straight pars before playing her final four holes at even par, with one birdie and one bogey. Shaw finished tied for 19th at 8-over 152 after shooting 79 on Sunday.

"V had an awesome top-10 finish and Winnie had a top 20, which was great," Ferguson said. "They are moving in the right direction and are so close to really having a solid finish."

Also for the Roadrunners, Sydney Eye recorded an eagle-3 on the par-5 15th hole while shooting 4-over and finished tied for 27th at 78-76-154.
