PUEBLO, Colo. – PJ Guidry flew to the school record in the triple jump to lead MSU Denver in its two-day stay at the CSU Pueblo Open Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Guidry finished fourth with a leap of 14.86 meters (48 feet, 9 inches), a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Indoor Championships and the 12
th-best effort in Division II so far this season. It bettered his previous best (14.28) by nearly two feet and surpassed not only Robert Carlson's 14.30 that was good for fifth place at the 2015 RMAC championships, it also broke the school record of 14.35 (47-1) set by an athlete (first name unknown) named Fleer in 1969.
But the outstanding efforts didn't stop there.
Ethan Loper was second in the 400 meters in 48.66 seconds, making him MSU Denver's fifth-fastest individual ever in the event.
Anthony Martinez ran a personal-best 14.83 in the 110 hurdles, improving his status as the second-fastest individual in that event in program history while finishing fourth. Also in the hurdles,
Sean Pecenka ran personal bests in both the 110 (15.71) and 400 (57.86), placing 10
th and 12
th respectively, to improve his status as the sixth-best in program history in the shorter event and to move up to the third-best in the 400 hurdles.
For the women,
Maya Ries placed second in the 100 hurdles in 14.50, her third-fastest time ever and also the third-best in program history. She also ran a personal-best 12.48 in the 100, which was good for 15
th place and which also puts her tied for eighth among individuals all-time at MSU Denver.
The Roadrunners continued to shine in the women's 100, with
Jaivion Lattimore finishing seventh in 12.08 and
Claire Hummel ninth in 12.10. That is Lattimore's fourth-best time ever – she holds the top four electronically timed performances in program history. Hummel's personal best makes her the third-fastest individual in the event in MSU Denver history.
In the men's 100,
Giovanni Vecchiarelli was 12
th in 10.85, which puts him tied for seventh among individuals in program history.
In the women's 200, Hummel was seventh in 25.19, which is the fourth-fastest ever run at MSU Denver and puts her fourth individually in the event as well. Lattimore was 10
th in 25.36.
In the men's javelin,
Brandon Simpson continues to creep closer to a program record held since 1971, as he finished 11
th with a heave of 48.30 meters (158-5). The record is held by (first name unknown) Christie at 51.71 (160-7).
Brooklynn Jones was third in the women's javelin at 35.75 (117-3).
Another solid throwing effort came from
Grace Solarin, who was 11
th in the shot put at 11.14 (36-6 ¾) and 15
th in the discus at 35.66 (117-0).
Not to be overlooked are two more excellent efforts on the track:
Nick Nowlen was third in the men's 800 (1:53.19) and
Abi Read was fifth in the women's 5,000 (18:16.04).
