FRESNO, Calif. – MSU Denver's Emily Hafner knocked off two seeded opponents on Friday to advance to the semifinals of the ITA West Regionals.
 
Hafner defeated fourth-seeded Abigail Wild of Hawaii Pacific 7-5, 6-2 early in the day, then came back to beat Tiffany Carillo of Concordia-Irvine (Calif.) 6-4, 6-3. Hafner will attempt to become the Roadrunners' first ITA regional champion since Tabitha Porter in 2017 on Saturday. She'll play top-seeded Madison Kane of Azusa Pacific (Calif.) in the semifinals.
 
Hafner and partner Lilly Stienemeier also breezed into the semifinals in doubles with an 8-0 victory over Julianna Campos/Devyn Rodriguez of Colorado Mesa, but then were defeated by the fourth-seeded duo of Carillo and
Sophie Rachor, 8-1.
 
Also Friday, seventh-seeded Juho Kantola advanced to the men's quarterfinals with a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) victory over Cian McDonnell of Hawaii-Hilo before being defeated by top-seeded Alexander Leischner of Point Loma (Calif.) 6-4, 6-2.
 
Maximo Lawlor and Alejandro Jimenez will play in Saturday's final in the men's doubles consolation bracket after 8-3 wins over two different teams from Westmont (Calif.), Michael Hopkins/Zach Hartman (West) and Gideon Vetan/Jarett Navarat.
 
Meanwhile Friday, Stienemeier reached the quarterfinals of the singles consolation bracket with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Astrid Craig of Dominican (Calif.) before falling to Emely Valencia of Point Loma 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6).
