Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.M. – It took a little bit longer than expected, but the MSU Denver women's soccer team secured another RMAC victory, beating the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls 3-0 on the road.
After a bit of a slow start for the Roadrunners, Madrid Mack opened things up in the 25th minute, scoring an impressive goal from just outside of the 18-yard box. After picking up a pass to the right side of the box from teammate Isa Durkin, Mack was able to strike the ball on her first touch, sending it over the keeper and into the left side of the net.
In the 41st minute of the match, the Roadrunners were awarded a penalty kick after a foul was called in the box during a corner kick attempt. Brooklyn Gold was able to convert on the penalty kick, making the score 2-0 just before the end of the first half – Gold's first goal of the season (and the day).
Once the game continued into the second half, the weather took a turn for the worst. After about a two-hour lightning delay, delaying the game at the 68th minute mark, the Roadrunners put one final nail in the coffin as Brooklyn Gold scored her second goal of the day in the 73rd minute.
The Roadrunners (7-2-4 overall, 6-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) will return to Colorado this weekend for a competitive Sunday match-up in Golden against the #1 team in the nation, Colorado School of Mines. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
