@MSUDenverWBB: Bonds to be Honored on Senior Night

Four-year regular has been one of the program's iconic players of the past decade

DENVER – One of the iconic figures of the past decade of MSU Denver women's basketball is set to be recognized Saturday on Senior Day.

Guard Tosjanae Bonds will be honored in a pre-game ceremony at the Auraria Event Center.

"She's done some amazing things here," MSU Denver coach Tanya Haave said. "Where she's come the last four years as a player and as a person, it's been great to see how she's grown up. She's always had such a huge heart, as big of a heart as anybody, for people and for her teammates. That's why you coach, to see someone develop as she has."

Bonds, a four-year regular, has career totals of 683 points, 381 rebounds, 128 assists and 169 steals. She's eighth in program history in steals, 12th in free throw percentage (81.0) and has played 2,269 career minutes heading into this weekend – which includes Friday's 5 p.m. game against Fort Lewis and Saturday's 5 p.m. matchup with Adams State.

Bonds was a key figure in MSU Denver's run to the 2022 NCAA Tournament, earning All-Tournament honors as the Roadrunners won the RMAC tournament title.

Her career totals would likely be higher if not for a series of injuries that have cut into her playing time over the past two seasons.

"What she's battled through, the chronic knee injuries – she's had pain the whole time she's been here – to see her go through that on a daily basis is remarkable," Haave said. "She's someone who is very special for me as a coach for what she's done in the program.

"And, early on, she struggled with some classes and now she's on the Dean's List and the Athletic Director's honor roll – we've celebrated that as much as anything. It will be fun to see what she does out in the world. I'm really proud for her and her family. I know it's going to be a really big day for them when she graduates."

MSU Denver (8-17 overall and 7-13 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) was eliminated from contention the the RMAC Tournament last weekend and will close out the season this weekend.

But a strong finish to the 2023-24 campaign started when MSU Denver knocked off Adams State and Fort Lewis on the road on consecutive nights back on the first weekend of February. The Roadrunners had come into that weekend at perhaps one of their lowest points of the season, but have turned things around and gone 5-3 since.

"Those two games set the tone for the last month of the season for us," Haave said.

Now MSU Denver will look to continue its end-of-season momentum.

"We want to keep building on our foundation for the future of this group," Haave said. "We've got some good pieces of a core group, and we'll need to add a couple of pieces. But we have a good foundation."
