Roadrunners finish fifth in team standings

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – Sydney Eye shot a final round of 3-over-par 75 to move into a tie for ninth that included teammate Isabel Botero while leading MSU Denver to a fifth-place finish Tuesday at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship.

Botero and Eye both finished the three-day tournament at 12-over 228. It was Eye's third career top-10 finish, and her first since the 2022-23 season, while Botero posted her third top-10 placement this season and the fifth of her career. It's the first time MSU Denver has had two top-10 finishers at the RMAC Championship since 2016.

Those two seniors helped MSU Denver to a third-round, four-player team score of 21-over 309, putting the Roadrunners' three-day total at 64-over 928, six strokes behind fourth-place Colorado Christian on the 6,055-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club course.

The fifth-place finish matched the 2018 and 2021 teams for MSU Denver's best result at the RMAC Championship since winning back-to-back titles in 2015 and 2016.

Senior Vaijayanti Bharkhada also had an outstanding final round with a 4-over 76 that included an eagle-3 on the 498-yard, par-5 ninth hole. She finished tied for 20th overall at 234.

"I'm so proud of how the seniors finished off their careers today," MSU Denver coach Stef Ferguson said. "All three had great rounds, and for Syd and Isa to finish in the top 10, it was just really cool."

Neige Dunn was 10-over Tuesday and finished tied for 30th at 238, while Mackenzie Carpenter, also 10-over Tuesday, tied for 34th at 239.

"Overall the team did some awesome things this year, set some new program marks individually and team-wise, and we look to keep improving going forward," Ferguson said.
