COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Monica Guarin defeated Louise Hosking in an All-MSU Denver women's B singles final, highlighting the Roadrunners' day at the Colorado College Invitational.
 
Guarin came from behind to edge Hosking in a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) thriller.
 
"I'm glad to see two seniors reach the final in the B bracket," MSU Denver coach Bruno Campos said. "That shows the depth of our team, and knowing that we are just at the beginning of the season reinforces our belief that we are on the right track."
 
Three other Roadrunners – Lluc Limongi Ollers, Victoria Ricuarte-Cabas and Reid Rainwater – played in main draw singles finals on Sunday.
 
In the men's A draw, Limongi Ollers won his semifinal matchup with Lucas Pastor of Colorado College 6-3, 6-3 before falling in the final to Colorado Mesa's Harry Scheck 7-6 (4), 6-4.
 
"While he didn't play his best, as he is still adjusting to high-altitude tennis, Lluc fought hard and found a way to reach the final by beating some good players," Campos said.
 
Freshman Ricuarte-Cabas reached the women's A final with a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3) victory over Colorado Mesa's Devyn Rodriguez, but was beaten in two close sets – 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5) – in the final by Kala Komanduri of Colorado College.
 
"Victoria had an amazing tournament in her first collegiate event," Campos said. "She overcame many obstacles and played solid tennis throughout the weekend. I know she put in a lot of work over the summer and came to Denver ready to compete. Her hard work, determination, and dedication made all the difference, but this is just the beginning of her college career, and I'm confident she wants to accomplish bigger things."

And, in the men's B draw, Rainwater won a tight semifinal over Nick Anderson of Colorado College 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6), but in the final against Lennart Lehmitz of Colorado College, Rainwater lost the final set 6-3 and retired.
 
"Reid impressed me with his performance over the weekend," Campos said. "Despite facing injuries, he managed to make it to the final, playing high-level tennis before having to forfeit due to a shoulder strain."


In backdraws, Enzo Inghilterra (A) for the men, and Bella Hernandez (C) and Laney Reddick (C) for the women all picked up victories.
 
MSU Denver was 3-3 in men's singles and 4-4 in women's singles on Sunday.
 
"I'm proud of how our group performed," Campos said. "While it's clear that some players are still working their way into peak condition, it's early in the season, and we will regroup and prepare for our next challenge at home on Thursday against the University of Nebraska Kearney. It's a great opportunity to continue building on this strong start to the season."
