DENVER – The MSU Denver Athletic Department announced today that it will discontinue its men's and women's tennis programs following the conclusion of the spring season. The decision, made after a thorough evaluation of program sustainability, will allow the department to focus resources on its 14 remaining NCAA Division II varsity sports to ensure their long-term success. 

"This difficult but strategic decision is not a reflection of our coaching staff or student-athletes, who have represented Roadrunners Athletics with dedication, excellence, and integrity," Director of Athletics Todd Thurman said. "We deeply value their contributions and the proud history of success and achievements in Roadrunners tennis." 

The spring rosters include nine student-athletes on the women's team and nine on the men's team. MSU Denver is committed to supporting these student-athletes throughout the transition by assisting with transfers, honoring current scholarships per NCAA and University policies, and providing academic resources. 

Coaches will also receive assistance as they navigate the next steps in their careers, Thurman said, expressing gratitude to Head Coach Bruno Campos and his staff. 

"We can't thank Coach Campos enough for his hard work and dedication since joining the Roadrunners family," Thurman said. "We will do everything in our power to help with the next stages of his professional journey." 

The campus tennis courts at the Assembly Athletic Complex will remain open for student and recreational use as the University assesses their long-term purpose. 

With this transition, MSU Denver Athletics remains committed to providing strong support for its 14 varsity programs, ensuring that student-athletes continue to compete at a high level.
