LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. — The MSU Denver women's golf team wrapped up its spring-opening tournament Tuesday at the SMSU Spring Invitational, finishing fifth overall out of 13 teams at +53 after two rounds at the Wigwam Resort – Red Course in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
The Roadrunners were led by another outstanding performance from Izabella Pesicka, who finished tied for first individually at +4 for the tournament. After opening the event tied for the lead Monday, Pesicka followed with a round of 75 (+3) on Tuesday to finish the event at 148, securing a share of the tournament title and continuing her strong start to the spring season.
Teammate Neige Dunn made one of the biggest moves on the leaderboard during the final round, climbing into third place overall at +6. Dunn turned in the best second-round score in the entire field, firing a 73 (+1) after shooting even-par 36 on the front nine and closing with a 37 on the back to surge up the standings.
The Roadrunners also counted a pair of mid-80s rounds in the final day from Lauren Mack and Jordyn Horsley. Mack carded an 86 (+14) in the final round to finish the tournament at +23, while Horsley posted an 87 (+15) on Tuesday to finish at +20 overall.
Rien Solodan rounded out the MSU Denver lineup with a 90 (+18) in the final round, while Sophia Honeyman, competing as an individual, posted an 85 (+13) on Tuesday.
Behind the strong individual finishes from Pesicka and Dunn, the Roadrunners finished the two-day event fifth among the 13-team field, marking a solid start to the spring portion of their schedule.
MSU Denver will remain in Arizona and return to the same course later this week, teeing it up again Thursday at the SMSU Classic for another opportunity to build momentum early in the spring season.
