GOLDEN, Colo. — MSU Denver capped off a dominant Sunday with a 14-4 win over Colorado School of Mines at Jim Darden Field, completing the sweep and improving to 20-6 overall and a perfect 8-0 in RMAC play.
The Roadrunners wasted no time setting the tone in the first inning. River Jackson ignited the offense with a leadoff knock and later would steal home before Royce Vandine followed with an RBI single to give MSU Denver an early 2-0 lead. That momentum only snowballed in the second inning, where the Roadrunners plated five runs despite just one hit. Patience at the plate proved to be the difference, as MSU Denver drew multiple walks and took advantage of hit-by-pitches with the bases loaded to stretch the lead to 7-0.
Colorado Mines chipped away with four runs across the third and fourth innings to make it 8-4, briefly putting pressure on the Roadrunners. But that was as close as it would get.
The turning point came in the sixth inning when MSU Denver blew the game open. Alek Martinez launched a two-run homer to right field, pushing the advantage to 10-4 and completely shifting the momentum back to the Roadrunners. The offense kept rolling from there—Brooks Rasmussen added an RBI single, and Jackson delivered an RBI double to cap a four-run frame and extend the lead to 12-4.
Jackson led the charge offensively, going 3-for-6 with a run and an RBI, while also making his presence felt on the basepaths. Rasmussen turned in an efficient day, finishing 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI, and Brayden Oram reached base consistently, going 2-for-4 with a run, an RBI, and two walks. Vandine added two RBIs, and Martinez's home run provided the biggest swing of the game.
On the mound, Drew Peters delivered a pivotal performance out of the bullpen. Entering after starter Nolan Livsey, Peters tossed three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four to earn the win and improve to 1-0 on the season.
The Roadrunner bullpen slammed the door the rest of the way. Noah Imboden, Joey Adge, and Gavin Kaiser combined over the final two innings, allowing just one baserunner to preserve the commanding victory.
With contributions up and down the lineup and lockdown pitching late, MSU Denver completed the sweep in convincing fashion and continued its perfect run through RMAC play.
