LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. — The MSU Denver women's golf team opened its spring season Monday with a strong showing at the SMSU Spring Invitational, finishing day one in third place at +20 as the tournament began at the Wigwam Resort.
After a successful fall season, the Roadrunners returned to competition for the first time in 2026 and were led by a standout performance from Izabella Pesicka, who sits tied for first place individually at +1 after the opening round.
Pesicka delivered one of the most consistent rounds in the field, carding rounds of 36 and 37 to finish with a 73 (+1). She recorded multiple pars throughout the day and kept mistakes to a minimum to move into a share of the tournament lead heading into the final round.
Behind Pesicka, Neige Dunn and Jordyn Horsley each finished the day tied for 13th at +5, both posting rounds of 77. Dunn opened with an even-par 36 on the front nine before finishing with a 41, while Horsley bounced back from a challenging stretch on the front nine to shoot 37 on the back nine.
Lauren Mack added an 81 (+9) for MSU Denver, highlighted by a strong back nine that included a pair of birdies as she matched par with a 36 coming in.
Rounding out the Roadrunners lineup, Rien Solodan shot 84 (+12) and Sophia Honeyman, competing as an individual, finished with an 83 (+11).
As a team, MSU Denver's +20 total places the Roadrunners third on the leaderboard after day one, keeping them well within striking distance entering the final round.
MSU Denver will return to the course Tuesday morning to wrap up the tournament, with Pesicka looking to hold onto a share of the individual lead while the Roadrunners chase a strong team finish to open their spring campaign.
