@MSUDenverXCTF: Rust and Simpson Capture Program Records Across Roadrunners' Two Meets

CANYON, Texas — MSU Denver Outdoor Track & Field put together a strong multi-meet performance this week, competing across two events that were highlighted by a pair of program-record performances.

The Roadrunners opened competition at the Mines Midweek and Multi on Wednesday and Thursday before the bulk of the team traveled to the Jo Meaker Classic, hosted by West Texas A&M, on Thursday and Friday.

Leading the way was Kathryn Rust, who delivered a historic performance in the women's heptathlon in Canyon. Rust totaled 4,826 points to finish sixth overall, setting a new program record while moving to No. 1 in the RMAC and into the top 10 nationally in NCAA Division II.

Rust's performance was fueled by personal bests across nearly every event, including a first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (13.92) and a runner-up finish in the shot put (11.57). She added strong marks in the high jump (1.57), long jump (5.43), and 800 meters (2:34.09) to cap one of the top all-around performances in program history.

On the men's side, Brandon Simpson set a program record in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.60 meters, finishing fifth in a competitive field at the Jo Meaker Classic. Simpson also added a sixth-place finish in the shot put (14.27), contributing to a strong showing in the throws group.

The Roadrunners turned in several notable performances on the track, including Kenny Greene, who placed seventh in the 400 meters (47.48) and added a 13th-place finish in the 200 meters (21.21).

In the distance events, Braden Medina led the way with a runner-up finish in the 1500 meters (4:04.19), while Elijah Garcia posted a top-15 finish in the 800 meters (1:57.95).

The men's sprint group also saw contributions from Mekhi Hubbard, Anthony Martinez, and Kevin Tashie, while the 4x100 relay team of Harris, Hubbard, Tashie, and Greene placed seventh.

On the women's side, Odone Omofoma led the sprinters with a 14th-place finish in the 100 meters (11.80), while Arianna Toaipa turned in a solid performance in the 400 meters (58.11).

Tanis Chavez highlighted the distance group with a sixth-place finish in the 1500 meters (5:01.77) and an 11th-place finish in the 800 meters (2:26.09).

In the field events, Andrea Davis cleared 1.60 meters to finish fifth in the high jump, while Brooklynn Jones placed sixth in the javelin (34.77).

Back in Golden earlier in the week, the Roadrunners opened competition at the Mines Midweek and Multi, where Jaelyn Korbe competed across all seven events in the heptathlon, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the javelin (33.89).

With multiple personal bests, two program records, and strong performances across the board, MSU Denver continues to build momentum during the outdoor season. The Roadrunners will be back in action Saturday as they return to Golden for the Mines Kit Mayer Classic.
