@MSUDenverBSB: Roadrunners Fall in Saturday Doubleheader to Mesa

DENVER – MSU Denver baseball closed out the 2026 regular season on Saturday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to No. 1-ranked Colorado Mesa at home.

With the sweep, the Roadrunners finish the regular season at 36-14 overall and 24-8 in RMAC play as they now turn their attention to the RMAC Tournament.

GAME ONE: #1 Colorado Mesa 9, MSU Denver 3
The Roadrunners battled early, but a late surge from the Mavericks proved to be the difference in the opener.

After falling behind 2-0, MSU Denver answered in the fourth inning when Lathen Buzard delivered a game-tying two-run home run to even the score at 2-2. The momentum was short-lived, however, as Colorado Mesa responded with a go-ahead run in the fifth to regain control.

The turning point came in the eighth inning, when the Mavericks broke the game open with a five-run frame, turning a one-run game into a comfortable lead.

MSU Denver was limited offensively, finishing with five hits, but did get a late spark in the ninth when Michael Deitz launched a solo home run to cut into the deficit.

On the mound, Nolan Livsey was charged with the loss, falling to 5-1 on the season after allowing five runs in three innings of relief.

GAME TWO: #1 Colorado Mesa 10, MSU Denver 1
Colorado Mesa completed the sweep in Game Two, holding the Roadrunners to just one hit in a 10-1 victory.

MSU Denver's lone offensive highlight came in the second inning, when Brayden Oram ripped an RBI double to briefly cut the deficit to 2-1. However, that would be the only hit of the game for the Roadrunners, as the Mavericks' pitching staff dominated the rest of the way.

Colorado Mesa steadily pulled away with consistent offense, while MSU Denver was unable to generate any sustained momentum at the plate.

The Roadrunners now shift focus to postseason play after closing the regular season against the top-ranked team in the country, having already secured the No. 2 seed in the RMAC Tournament set to begin next week in Grand Junction.
