Roadrunners Split in Minnesota

The No. 14 Metro State women's soccer team split a pair of overtime games to nationally-ranked teams this weekend in Minnesota. The 'Runners fell 3-2 to No. 8 Minnesota State-Mankato, but responded with a 2-1 victory over No. 19 Winona State.

Against MSU-Mankato, the Roadrunners took a 1-0 lead at 38:06 of the first half on a goal from Ashley Nemmers and an assist from Jen Thomas. Metro State added another goal at 62:47 by Thomas. She was assisted by Becca Mays.

The Mavericks responded with two cornerkick goals to tie the game in the second half. MSU-Mankato put the game away at 99:44 when junior forward Natalie Bullis found the ball at her feet all alone in the goalkeeper's box and fired a shot past Metro State goalkeeper Lisa Jewett.

Metro State responded with a 2-1 victory over Winona State on Saturday. Thomas again scored first to give the 'Runners the 1-0 lead at 51:01. The Warriors struck back quickly tying the score at 1-1 three minutes later. This time the Roadrunners would not be denied, as Nemmers scored her second goal of the season to give the 'Runners the victory at 96:55 in overtime.

Metro State returns to the field tomorrow at Noon MST to host its first home contest of the season.
