DENVER, Colo. - The Metro State women's basketball team avenged an early season loss and improved to 5-6 after defeating Montana State-Billings, 67-61, at the Auraria Event Center.
Senior Megan Sinclair led three Roadrunners in double figures with 19 points. Freshman Jasmine Cervantes tallied 11 points, while freshman Sharaya Selsor added 10 points. Junior Rae Bean tallied a game-high 12 rebounds to go with nine points.
The Roadrunners, who never trailed in the contest, jumped out to an 11-3 lead and pushed the margin to 29-15 with just over four minutes to play in the first half. Selsor and junior Chelsea Williamson (Boulder, Colo./Boulder H.S.) each hit jumpers to open the second stanza for Metro State, pushing the lead to 41-26--its largest of the game.
Montana State-Billings slowly closed the gap, cutting the lead to three, 63-60, with just over a minute remaining in the contest. Senior Megan Sinclair and Bean each added a pair of free throws as the Roadrunners held on for the win.
Alira Carpenter led MSU-Billings with 19 points and Jetton Meadors added 10.
Metro State hosts the Academy of Art Saturday, Jan. 3 at 2 p.m.
