Roadrunners Cruise to Victory over Nebraska-Kearney

Box Score

KEARNEY, Neb. -
The No. 6 Metro State women's soccer team outshot Nebraska-Kearney 29-5 to go on to a 4-0 victory on Friday afternoon in Kearney.  It was the 15th consecutive win for the Roadrunners, who improved to 17-1-0 overall and 14-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Lopers fell to 1-15-1 overall and 0-12-1 in the RMAC.

Madison McQuilliams (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield H.S.) had three assists in the win.  It was just the 11th time in school history a player has had three or more assists in a game.  The school record is four; the last player with three assists in a game was Courtney Ryan (Chula Vista, Calif./Coronado H.S.), who did so on Sept. 21, 2008, against Regis.  Ryan had one assist on Friday.

Becca Mays (San Antonio, Texas/Madison H.S.) had two goals and 10 shot attempts.  Her 10 shot attempts were just two off the school record and the most since she attempted 10 shots on Nov. 7, 2008, against Fort Lewis.  Ashley Nemmers (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.) and Aleah DeGeneres (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) also had goals for Metro State.

Becca Maloney (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) made three saves for her eighth shutout of the season.

The Roadrunners held a 10-1 shot advantage during the first 22 minutes but was held scoreless as UNK goalkeeper Marissa Niday stopped all six shots on goal during that span.  Mays finally opened the scoring in the 28th minute as she beat Niday, who came out of the goal on the play, after receiving a long pass from Ryan.

Nemmers put Metro State in front 2-0 just two minutes later on a shot from the close right wing after receiving a short pass from McQuilliams.

The score remained until the 67th minute when DeGeneres shot from eight yards out to score as McQuilliams tallied her second assist.

Mays added the fourth goal of the game eight minutes later as she drilled a shot from the top of the box off McQuilliams' third assist of the game.

Niday made 14 saves in the game for the Lopers.  It was the third time this season a Metro State opponent made 10 or more saves in a game.

The Roadrunners have Sunday off and will play again on the road next Friday at Adams State.
