DENVER, Colo. -
The No. 22 Metro State volleyball team swept Colorado Mines, 25-16, 25-21, 25-19 at home on Saturday night in Denver.  The Roadrunners improved to 18-7 overall and 11-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Orediggers fell to 20-7 overall and 12-5 in the RMAC.

The win for Metro State avenged a five-set loss to CSM in Golden earlier this year.  It also was important for Metro State's regional position as the Roadrunners are ranked No. 8 in the latest Central Region rankings released on Thursday.  Colorado Mines is ranked No. 10.  The top eight teams in the region will make the NCAA Tournament.

Gabe Curtis (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) had a stellar night for Metro State, dishing out 40 set assists and helping the team hit .361 (46-11-97) in the match.  It was the fifth-highest hitting percentage for the Roadrunners this season.  They hit over .300 in each of the three sets on Saturday.

Curtis helped three players reach double figures in kills, led by Bri Morley (Parker, Colo./Cherokee Trail H.S.) with 16, Emily Greenhalgh (Conifer, Colo./Conifer H.S.) with 11 and Lisa Jones (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East H.S.) with 10.  Jones hit .615 (10-2-13), just shy of her career-high hitting percentage of .643.  Morley connected at .433 (16-3-30) and Greenhalgh hit .321 (11-2-28).  Anna Mapes (Chaska, Minn./Chaska H.S.) was also efficient in just 11 attempts, hitting .455 (5-0-11).

Amy Watanabe (Littleton, Colo./Heritage H.S.) had 13 digs to lead Metro State.  Morley added 11 for her seventh double-double this season.

Metro State held Colorado Mines to a .158 (33-17-101) hitting percentage and had five aces, the most for the Roadrunners since Oct. 6 at Colorado College in a five-set affair.

Morley's four kills led Metro State to a .310 (13-4-29) team hitting percentage in the first set.  Mapes and Greenhalgh each added three kills.  It was the strongest defensive set for the Roadrunners as they held CSM to just a .065 (10-8-31) attack percentage.  Metro State took control of the first set after leading 6-5 by scoring six of the next seven points.

The second set was tied 13-13 when the Roadrunners scored three straight points and five of the next six to take an 18-14 lead.  The Orediggers battled back to cut Metro State's lead to 19-18, but the Roadrunners used a pair of CSM errors and a kill by Greenhalgh to lead 22-18.  Metro State hit .316 (15-3-38) in the second set.

Metro State had its best offensive frame in the night's final set, hitting .467 (18-4-30), as Morley drilled eight kills in the third set.  The Roadrunners led 10-9, but scored the next three points to lead 13-9.  Leading 15-12, Greenhalgh had a pair of kills around a CSM attack error to take an 18-12 lead.  Jones scored Metro State's final three points of the night via kills as the Roadrunners closed the match with four of the final five points.

The Roadrunners will play again on Sunday afternoon at home at 3 p.m. in the Auraria Event Center against Chadron State.  It will be the final home match of the year for the Roadrunners.  Sunday's match is a rescheduled match after CSC was unable to travel for the originally scheduled start time on Friday due to snow in Nebraska and Colorado.
