DENVER, Colo. - The Metro State baseball team split a doubleheader vs. Regis on opening day under first-year head coach Jerry Schemmel. The Rangers took game one, 6-4, but the Roadrunners rallied for an 11-9 victory in game two.
Jordan Stouffer (1B) paced the Roadrunners by going 4-for-6 with four RBI, a double and a home run. Catcher Kevin Caughlin and third baseman Everett Altmann turned in key performances in Metro State's first win of the year. Caughlin was 3-for-4 from the plate with one RBI, while Altmann was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Ryan Eccles picked up the win for the Roadrunners with three strikeouts in two innings pitched.
Metro State travels for a four-game set at Colorado State-Pueblo Feb. 6-7-8. The First Annual Metro State Baseball Kickoff Classic takes place the following weekend at All Star Park in Lakewood, Colo. The Roadrunners host Montana State-Billings and Nebraska-Kearney for the three-day classic (Feb. 13-14-15).
